How to Survive as a New Nurse
Being a new nurse can be challenging but newbies need not be intimidated. Here are some survival tips for new nurses:
Avoid signing up for overtime if you are still learning the ropes of the job. While the fat paycheck can be tempting, working long hours on your adjustment period will only leave you feeling drained and unaccomplished sometimes.
Take notes. Ask questions from experienced nurses and write down the answers so you will have a reference for different issues and concerns. Jot down everything that you think is essential for your learning process.
Make your voice heard. Don’t let your newbie status stop you from voicing your concerns. Utilize appropriate channels, keep it professional, and be respectful so that people will listen to you despite being new in the office.
Surround yourself with positive influence. This includes pleasant team players and those who love their jobs in spite of all the challenges.
