Eiffel Tower evacuated as police converge on Pullman Hotel in Paris

The Eiffel Tower has been evacuated as heavily armed police converged on the nearby Pullman Hotel in Paris, with the incident triggered by a "false alert".

Witnesses and guests reported officers going from room-to-room searching the hotel.
There were a number of ambulances summoned to the building.
Reuters later reported the French Interior Ministry had said the hotel had been given the all clear. Police have also raided homes in the Belgian capital of Brussels, arresting three men in connection with the horrific shootings.

The rapid succession of strikes, all claimed by the Islamic State, suggested that the regional war has turned into a global one.
